CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago couple that moved to Mexico and disappeared has been found dead, the family of one of the men said.
Zafar Padamsee Mawani and Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz had not been seen since late May.
ABC7 spoke to Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz's niece, who said the married couple just moved from Chicago to Mexico in October. They were living in a neighborhood in the far southern part of Mexico City.
The men were apparently going to get equipment from an alleged contractor for an elderly mother with Alzheimer's before they went missing.
A spokesperson for Mawani's family shared a statement with ABC7, saying "We are aware of reports circulating regarding Zafar and Guillermo. We are in direct contact with authorities to confirm accurate information. We ask for patience and privacy for the family during this time."
More information was not immediately available.
